BackerKit surveys are coming!
almost 3 years ago – Mon, Jun 14, 2021 at 05:40:12 AM

Good afternoon, backers! Let me begin by apologizing for my silence. Right at the conclusion of our campaign, my move to my new house was imminent and my computer crashed. It's not a good excuse, but it's my excuse. I appreciate your patience. Good news: I'm about 75% moved in--would be 99% but I threw out my back last week--and I got a new computer. Okay, onto business...

Just minutes ago I created the smoke test for your surveys. 5% of you will have the opportunity to complete them, and once that goes off without a hitch, I'll hit another button and they'll  go out en masse. Expect your survey no later than midday tomorrow (Fri 11 Jun).

When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like. You don’t have access to this survey link yet, but it will be available!

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before we close the surveys and get our final counts.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email.

If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account.

One last thing for the US-based backers: You have access to the Holiday Hijinks bundle (The Independence Incident & The Kringle Caper) with $0 shipping in the US.

Holiday Hijinks bundle

If you add that on and complete your survey and pay, I'll send it no later than the last week of June, which should allow plenty of time to receive it for your July 4 celebration.

  • Non-US backers: My sincerer apologies that I cannot offer these games with free shipping.
  • Retailer backers: Contact me directly if you want these games for your store: [email protected]

Any questions, please reach out. Thank you so much for your support and patience.

Playfully,

Marc

Levan the Man
about 3 years ago – Fri, May 07, 2021 at 09:43:10 AM

Good morning, backers! We had a strong overnight, and I was excited to see our progress when I checked in today. This bodes well for the next 11 days.

One Card Wonder

In this life, if we don't work to lift each other up, our value is greatly diminished. I don't think there's a better way to end our first week than by promoting another small project. To that end, I have something to share with you from our friends at APE Games.

One Card Wonder is a strategic game of collecting resources and racing to complete a wonder that will be the envy of the world! This fast-paced, asymmetrical resource collection game was designed by our own Nat Levan. Now you can learn about the world's wonders with family and friends while competing to build Supports and deploy influential Leaders for additional benefits as you collect resources you need to achieve your wondrous goal! Check out the fast playing boardgame for 2 to 6 players soon though as it leaves Kickstarter in just 3 days!

I hope you have an excellent weekend.

Marc

Bringing Aldabas to life
about 3 years ago – Fri, May 07, 2021 at 08:32:14 AM

Good morning! I wanted to take a moment to show you 2 changes we made to Aldabas as part of the process of bringing it to Kickstarter. Take a look at the image below.

Old card on the left, new card on the right

There are 2 distinct differences in this image, one on the top and one on the bottom.

Functional change

We changed the top of the card at the suggestion of Trinity Augesen of Overknight Games. She said that she felt the card was a bit too busy, and after taking a second look we agreed. By truncating the scoring reminder, we maintained the intent of the iconography, but markedly reduced the cognitive load on the player. And perhaps most importantly, it allowed the card to feature more of Juan's incredible art. Who knew a door could look so good?!?

Authenticity change

The second change came out of working with our cultural consultant, Jose. As a result of his feedback, the crown point symbol is changed. Crowns represent points in many modern board games, but the crown that we originally used is a European crown. Now it has been changed to represent an indigenous crown from Popayán, a town in Colombia. Incredible how such a simple change not only looks spectacularly distinct, but elevates the authenticity of the story we are telling. Jose also had this to say, "I feel you nailed the colorful mood of the Ciudad Amurallada of Cartagena with the cards' color palette (extra points for using the flag's colors ⭐)".

I hope you've enjoyed this peek behind the curtain. Aldabas continues to make its climb, and we've a long way to go before the door is closed on this campaign.

Marc

Moving Day!
about 3 years ago – Thu, May 06, 2021 at 09:43:32 PM

G’morning, everyone. Through a challenging confluence of events, today is the day I’m moving out of my apartment and into my house (sort of).

My aldaba-less apartment door

I’ll be around and keeping my eye on the campaign, but my ability to respond will be curtailed. I’m grateful for your understanding.

Help out the campaign by spreading the word on social media!

FUNDED!!!
about 3 years ago – Wed, May 05, 2021 at 03:08:13 AM

¡Muchas gracias!

When I decided to publish Aldabas, I did so because of the extraordinary game play: mechanically simple, strategically tough. I knew the game was great, and I knew that Josh Cappel could make it to look beautiful. And boy did he deliver!

Well, just under 7 hours in, and our little card game is FUNDED! Tremendous thanks to you...and you...and you! Your support means the world. Now we've 13 days to go, and we'll keep pounding the e-pavement to put Aldabas in front of everyone we can.

Stay tuned, because even though this is a 'clean campaign'--no stretch goals, just a great product out of the gate--we're still going to have some fun.

Playfully,

Marc
